Fashion week is nothing new to those of us who follow and photograph fashion. However, what is new is the experience I had on Saturday. It was a fashion week that took place in Baltimore, Maryland. However, it was a fashion week in support of the plus size model. For a few months now I have been fortunate to collaborate on the Curves Ahead Project with photographer Mickey Armstrong, which also focuses on women of a plus size stature. With being a plus size woman for many years myself, all of this touches me on a personal level. You look at magazines, television, music videos, billboards and they all portray a skinny lifestyle for whatever the reason might be. Lately though, the plus size phenomenon has been taking a larger stance in areas where for a long time it has not held a place, and that is exactly what this fashion week in Baltimore, called Curves Rock Fashion Week, did for this group of women. There were motivational speeches, a brunch, networking mixer, the runway show and so much more. Many might feel the women who were brought on to take part in this event were fortunate, however, I believe that all of us who were fortunate enough to buy a ticket or get a press pass were the lucky ones because we experienced a show that completely blew us away. We saw women who were empowered and proud of who they were, what they have accomplished, and where they were going. They walked the runway with poise and attitude. I cannot begin to put my experiences into words and I look forward to next year.

The designers included Torris, Ashley Stewart, Fashion to Figure, Niche Boutique, Pile NY, Annie Kaufman, Serita Bell, P.S. Couture, Empress Lingerie, Tru Diva, C. Nicole, Marco Hall, and Shanda Freeman. These designers are making their mark on the fashion industry and I cannot wait to see what founders Channell Jones and Tykesha Reed put on next year. I am happy to be able to share this fashion gallery with you. When you get a chance support these designers, like their social media profiles, and make a purchase.
